Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Diet Clerk is responsible for promoting optimal patient nutrition by maintaining a smooth-running diet office and for providing accurate and professional communication.


MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. COORDINATES COMPUTER AND TELEPHONE INFORMATION FOR THE DEPARTMENT.


Consistently answers phone and processes requests professionally and appropriately as set by department standards at 100% of the time.


Maintains a good line of communication with clinical dietitians, diet technicians, and kitchen personnel.


2. MENU AND NOURISHMENT PRODUCTION


· Always assures that each patient, who is to receive a meal, has a menu prepared to the written diet order.


· Communicates needs of menu to the diet tech in the area of responsibility at all times and in a timely manner


· Always assures accuracy of menus as compared to diet orders.

· Tallies menus accurately as per established guidelines.


Always checks and assures the availability of special food items as per the types of diet order·


Always checks the validity of and conditions of special items.


Prepare purchase requests for the needs of the department.


Helps in delivering the needed items from the stores to the kitchen / dietary office.


Types write-ins on menus into computer and places sheets in designated area; i.e., hot food, cold food, salad and feedings on time as required.


· Always assures accuracy of nourishment as compared to order accurately.


3. TRAYLINE.


· Perform tray-line efficiently and maintain authority; always assures accuracy of trays as compared to menus.


4. SELF-DEVELOPMENT

Continually strives to keep abreast of pertinent trends and knowledge in the new areas of nutrition as per goals and objectives submitted yearly.


· Participates in staff development in services as scheduled 100% of the time.


· Assists in projects and program development as assigned by the Chief Clinical Dietitian to maintain and upgrade the quality of the department 100% of the time.


· Attends school or training to be qualified to next level of responsibility.


· Submits annually a report to the Chief Clinical Dietitian, to include goals and objectives for the upcoming year.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


At least 2-3 years of previous experience is required.


Education/Certification:


· High School Diploma in Biology, food technology, dietetics, health care or any related field or equivalent.


Work Experience:


Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:


· Good oral and written communication skills.


· Moderate demands for reading, clerical skills, perception/comprehension, and judgement.


· Ability to make basic decisions.


· Limited demands for complex-reading and writing, memorization, analytical and math skills.

· Ability to work well under pressure. Must be detailed oriented and follow directions.


The diet Clerk will be working full time, 6 days /week, and working days can be Fridays and Saturdays.
